Each year the Platte River in south-central
Nebraska hosts an incredible migration of Sandhill Cranes. The cranes
start to arrive in early to mid-February and the numbers generally
peak in mid-March. An estimated 90% of the world's Sandhill Cranes,
some half-million, spend a few weeks along a 50 mile stretch of
river in preparation for their journey north to summer habitats
in Canada, Alaska and Siberia.
